Ryan Pointon

[vc_single_image image=”4528″ img_size=”full”]

Ryan is a producer working in electronic music, mainly focusing on retro futuristic synthwave music. While he makes his own music in this genre, Ryan also has a keen interest in working in other genres, from jazz/funk to melodic hardcore, and anything in between.

Ryan’s earliest musical experiences were in the alt rock genre: the first album he bought was Green Day’s ‘American Idiot’. Gradually he started listening to more aggressive music, and different styles and genres, and started to take more of an interest in the production side of it. This is when Ryan knew he wanted to be a part of the music industry.

Ryan’s first steps into production were taken at Solihull Sixth form college, taking music technology for two years, learning the basics of various microphone and mixing techniques. Following on from this Ryan studied a Foundation Degree at The Academy of Music and Sound in Birmingham, progressing to York St. John University to complete his honours degree in Music Production, where he was able to make more industry contacts, as well as gain more experience in the recording studio.

During his studies Ryan started listening to film soundtracks, mainly those by John Carpenter and Howard Shore, primarily using them as background music while doing written work. However, the music became too distracting and he would just sit listening to it, rather than doing the work. This led to his interest in synthwave, and when he began contemplating writing for film.

Over the past year Ryan has written and produced a synthwave album called ‘Redacted’ under the name Automata. It’s also a concept album where the tracks musically explore different film scenarios.
