Alex Dye

[vc_single_image image=”4522″ img_size=”full”]

Alex Dye is a York-based recording engineer and producer. He is known for his commitment to music, meticulous attention to detail and keen sense of self-awareness. All of this inspires him to make the best music possible.

At the start of his career Alex played guitar in the band Overreaction. In those early years he became drawn to the technical side of being in a band. From learning to tune the drums to setting up the PA system before gigs, he quickly became fascinated with the process as much as the music.

This led Alex to pursue a formal education in Music Production, during which time he went from never having opened a Digital Audio Workstation application on a computer to running full band recording sessions. Over the three years of his degree he worked on a variety of projects, from making a Lo-Fi House track for Manchester DJ Will Maden to learning how to make music for film, using Miles Watts’s independent film ‘Zomblogalypse’ as a practical exercise; from an indie folk song to a Lorde-esque in the box production.

At the end of 2019 Alex got the opportunity to work with BBC Radio York recording Christmas carol concerts at Selby Abbey and York Barbican. Using the knowledge and experience he gained through this he went on to record the Woodbridge School Chamber Choir’s carol concert himself.

Over the past year Alex has written and recorded an indie-rock album called ‘City of Ghosts’ under the name Young Apostle.
